I Tried Jesus But He Didn’t Work For Me

No, this is not about me, but I made you click the link, didn’t I?  I have heard this statement many times over.  I tried Jesus, but it didn’t work for me.  I am still struggling.  Jesus didn’t get me out of my situation.  My spouse still left me.  I am still drinking, still doing drugs, still angry all the time, still depressed.

What idea do you have about Jesus?  Do you think He is some sort of Jeanie that pops in and grants you three wishes?  If you think that way you are sadly mistaken. He is not someone that grants wishes.  He is not a name it and claim it God.  He is not a God to be pulled out of a box in case of an emergency. He is a personal relationship God that desires to love you more deeply than any living human being on the face of this earth.  He is a personal God with a unique personal relationship with you.  It is not the same for all.  You as an individual are unique and special to Him!

Christianity is not a try it to see if you like it type relationship.  When you call upon the name of the Lord, and you truly meant it, you are permanently sealed unto the day of redemption! You become His! He knows if you are playing games with Him.  There is nothing you can do to hide it.  He sees our hearts.  I knows what we think, do and say every day twenty-four hours a day seven days a week! There is no place to hide, you can hide nothing from Him!

I TRIED JESUS QUESTIONS

If you are saying,”I tried Jesus, but…”, here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • I tried Jesus, but He was not what I expected! What was I expecting to happen when I called upon Jesus?

If it was anything other than realizing you were a sinner dying and on your way to hell, then you missed the point and you are still lost. As I have stated before, Christ is not someone who grants wishes.  He is a personal God desiring a personal relationship with you.

  • I tried Jesus, but my problems never went away.  In fact they got worse!  Was I expecting all my problems to go away?

If that was what you were expecting and you now see you are worse off than when you started.  That is because you are saved and the Holy Spirit in your life is saying, “Now that you are mine you need to change these things!”  When you called upon the name of the Lord to save you, you become His!  You are no longer in control of your destiny.  God wants you to conform to His will no your own! The Bible says In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.  These two verses are focused on fornication, but it puts in perspective what a relationship with Christ is like as a Christian.

  • I tried Jesus to make my parents or those in my life happy.  It did not work out! Did I just go through the motions of salvation just so it would impress someone because I wanted the attention?

Again just like the first question.  You are still lost! God knows if we are playing games or if we had an agenda at that time. Stop playing games and repent and seek His face.  Realize there is coming a day when you will stand before the King of kings and Lord of lords and give an account.  You may have did a one over on those around you and those you love, but you will not one over Christ!  He knows!  Matthew 25:31-33 says When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.  Goats will not be making their mark in the Kingdom.  They will be cast in the lake of fire where the fire is never quenched and the worm never dies!

We could ask question after question about this topic, but the ultimate question to ask is this:

Do I really want Jesus and to be saved from hell regardless if my life is a mess and will still be a mess, or do I just want my problems to go away?

The Bible is clear on the path of salvation.  We are fallen and we need Jesus! Romans 10:9-10 states this:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
