How to be a man of God: You can do it!

How to be a man of God: You can do it!

How to be a man of God? How do we really know? What are the characteristics of a godly man?  We need to look at the scriptures to find the truth.

How to be a man of God? Become a child of God!

In order to be a man of God you have to become a child of God first!  The Bible says in Matthew 18:1-4 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? (2) And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, (3) And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. (4) Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus commands us to become a little child in Christ. A little child is innocent.  As a godly man Jesus wants us to come as we are, with all our insecurities and all our sins. As a child of God we know only that Jesus Christ saved us from the wrath that is to come. We do not know how to act.  We need the instruction, the guidance and the correction to be more like Christ.  This is called the sanctification process or growth process.  This process is a life long process and will not happen over night. It takes work.  It takes commitment. It takes tough decisions to change. It takes sacrifice.

How to be a man of God? Become obedient to God!

We may be saved by grace and destined for Heaven as a child of God, but it is far much more than this! How far are we willing to go with our personal relationship with the Lord?

This has nothing to do with legalism or the law to keep your salvation.  It has everything to do with understanding what Jesus did for us!  Jesus is serious with His personal relationships as we should too as a man of God! Jesus says it clearly in Luke 14:26-27 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. (27) And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. Are we willing to sacrifice our free time to be in the Word? If not we cannot be a man of God!

Do we love Jesus MORE than our mother, father, wife, and children, brother(s), and sister(s)?  If not, we cannot be a man of God.

How to be a man of God?  Get in the Book!

In other words. STUDY! READ! STUDY some more!  A man of God has a desire to understand who this Savior is that saved him from an eternity in Hell! The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. It says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. It says in Isaiah 34:16a Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read. Read the Book! Success is only mentioned in one verse!  It says in Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. It is a love letter to us and without the Book you will have no success!

How to be a man of God? PRAY!

If we are not praying regularly, with purpose, with depth, with meaning, we are not a man of God!  The Bible says in James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.  It is a sin not to pray! It says in 1 Samuel 12:23  Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: We are commanded to pray without ceasing in 1 Thessalonians 5:17

This post may seem a bit heavy and some of you may a little discouraged.  Don’t be! Paul says in Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. You can do it!  Be intentional. Be realistic. Be committed and determined!

How to become a man of God will be worth it in the end! Praying for you! Please read my about page to learn more about me.
