First Words of Jesus From the 4 Gospels: John Part 4

This is the last post of the 4 part series called First Words of Jesus From the 4 Gospels from First and Last. We talked about the following topics:

  1. Baptism – First Words of Jesus From the 4 Gospels: Matthew Part 1
  2. Salvation – First Words of Jesus From the 4 Gospels: Mark Part 2
  3. About My Father’s Business – First Words of Jesus From 4 Gospels: Luke Part 3

The final post of this four part series asks a question,  “What seek ye?”  Lets take a look at the entire passage for it’s context.

John 1:35-39 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; (36) And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! (37) And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. (38) Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? (39) He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.

A few of the disciples knew who Jesus was right away.   He was the Lamb of God!  When Jesus noticed He was being followed, He engaged them and asked a simple question.  “What seek ye?”

What are you seeking? Maybe you are lost right now.  You have no idea how or why you are where you are right now.  Maybe your life is a total mess. The godly man is not exempt from this either.  What seek ye? Is it purpose? Is it direction?  Whatever it is Jesus asks an immediate question.  He wants to know.  Regardless of the fact that God knows what we need before we ask.  He wants us to ask anyways.  He wants us to seek Him out!

Jesus said in Matthew 6:33 to “Seek ye first the kingdom of God!”

Matthew 6:25-34 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? (26) Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? (27) Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? (28) And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: (29) And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. (30) Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? (31) Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (32) (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. (33)But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.(34) Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Whatever you are seeking and not finding you are seeking the wrong thing, the wrong person, the wrong path.  What seek ye?  Seek Jesus!  He has the big picture of your situation.  He desires to have that deep close relationship with you.  You need to know where Christ abodes?  Open the Bible. You will find that out.
