First husband of the Bible
First husband of the Bible is a continuation into the first and last series. Before I get started I want to say that this verse we will look at will not cater to itching ears and people who want to get feel good message. If you are not that kind of person you may want to stop reading right now.
The first husband messed up!
The first husband messed up! How would it feel to start off your day introduction some crazy virus in to the air that infected all of mankind? How would it feel to be the cause of something detrimental that you will go down in history as the one who infected the entire world till the end of the world. Adam was that man, and he went down in to history as the one that infected us all with a very real struggle called sin.
Genesis 3:1-6 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? (2) And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: (3) But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. (4) And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: (5) For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. (6) And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
We can learn a tremendous amount from this passage and the first husband of the Bible! This day started off like any other day until the devil showed up. I wrote a different post about the first question that talked about how the devil’s one mission was to corrupt and change the Word of God! This whole situation could have been avoided had Eve not be oblivious to what God said and that Adam, the husband had did his job as the man of the house! What can we learn from this passage and the first mention of the word husband?
Husbands need to lead spiritually!
Men if you are reading this today. we need to understand that we have a huge responsibility. The first husband reveals that too us! We all struggle with the balance, daily. I don’t think we understand what our roles are as husbands. We need to be leaders of our homes, our wives, and our children. We need to lead our entire family spiritually. Here are some verse we need to take to heart as a role model of a husband and father if you have children!
Husbands are the head!
Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Does than mean we are dictators? Absolutely not! We are in the days of toxic feminism. There is only one person we can blame for this. Ourselves. We are not leading the way God designed us to lead as men, as husbands, as spiritual leaders. Husbands we are a picture of Christ as it says in the above verse. We need to act like it!
Husbands love your wives!
Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Colossians 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
No where in the Bible does it ever say that the wife is supposed to love the husband. Why is that? We need and desire respect, that is why the Bible says for wives to submit to their husbands. Not in reverence, or like a lord, but respect. How do we love our wives?
- We love our wives through God’s Word! Ephesians 5:26-27 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, (27) That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
- We love our wives as we love our own bodies! Ephesians 5:28-29 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. (29) For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
- We love our wives by becoming one flesh! Ephesians 5:30-31 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. (31) For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
Fathers invest in your children and grand children!
Proverbs 17:6 Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
Fathers a child needs his or her father! There are too many irresponsible fathers out there. This needs to change now because men, if you are not willing to be a father, then don’t have children and don’t marry someone who has children. It is that simple. Dead beat fathers are destroying the future of our children. Paul said it clearly. GROW UP! MAN UP and take responsibility!
1 Corinthians 16:13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
Proverbs says in Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Fathers provoke not your children to wrath!
Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Colossians 3:21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
There is a time for correction and there is a time for spankings. Our words can discourage them. Once words start flying out of our mouths there is no turning back from it. It will take years to heal from that, and the regrets you will receive from saying those words go on forever. Correct the biblical way, not from anger. Especially if we are angry, we need to walk away from the situation for a bit, to get our thoughts together, and then sit down and discuss the situation at hand.
The first husband of the Bible. We can learn a lot from this passage. Let’s be intentional and not allow the events of the first husband to influence us as husbands and fathers and be the godly men, the godly fathers, the godly husbands that God called us to be.
