I was reading in my Bible in the Book of Proverbs and right of the bat I read the very first verse.
Proverbs 22:1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
A good name. There is just something about it that is very important. I think of different people. For instance, Cal Ripken, a famous ball player, the Philadelphia Eagles, who just won the recent Superbowl. A name is important. When someone mentions our name, what is the first thing that pops up? Is it good or is it bad? It is hard to recover from a bad name. It is even more difficult when your name becomes well known and then turns bad.
We need to be careful and represent our name with good, godly character. Especially as a born-again believer of the Lord Jesus Christ! When we mention the name Jesus, what is it that we think about? Salvation comes to mind for me. God comes to mind for me. Judge, love, sacrifice just to name a few.
It is interesting to note that a good name is better than great riches. Why? Because riches can be taken away. We can suddenly become poor and bankrupt, but if our name is well known by the good we have done then our financial status will not matter. Some of us are known by our great riches. Why not be known by our great riches in Christ? Jesus has a name that is above any other name. At the calling out of His name in repentance, He will take up residence in our hearts and save us from an eternity in hell! We will save us!
Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Jesus wants to save you. He knows your name. Will you run to Him?
